Virtual Delivery Room

This was the conversation that occurred worldwide on June 25, 2002, Morgan's birthday.

At 6:12 am (June 24), Bob said: I'm just making my presence known. Are you all ready for this? Hoo-ah!

At 10:31 am (June 24), Sonny said: Anything happen yet?
At 5:55 pm (June 24), Shag said: C'mon Kittybob and Steph, let me know something here.... Been in a tizzy all day with worry.
Can't wait to see this beautiful new baby girl....
(((((((((HUGS)))))))))

At 7:26 pm (June 24), Bob said: Steph, you put up a cookie that recognized my return visit. How clever of you. You should put a link to the VDR on the home page. IMHO

I'm glad your taking the doctors' advice, Kitty and Su. Heheh.

At 5:58 am, Shag said: Waiting......waiting......The wonderful day is here !!!!!!!!!! You will be in my thoughts every second. I need to take my computer to work, so I can be with you.
Love and hugs to all.

At 6:35 am, Steph said: Now, how did you all know the link to this feature? :) It wasn't supposed to open until this morning. Ah well, the link is up on the home page, the chat is open, and I'm on my way to the hospital to begin documentation duties. If all goes well, I'll be able to upload pictures directly from there. Happy day! :)
At 6:50 am, Bob said: Kitty sent an email with the link to the VDR page. Feel the energy coming from Portland—here's some back .... I wish you good-luck today Kitty and 2girl. Hang in there, Suman. I must go to work, but will check in periodically. ILY
At 6:55 am, Kris LeGault said: "tuesdays child is fair of face" way to go two girl! I know you will be so beautiful. we are praying for your safe journey into your parents arms. Name Makenna Elise Misra
At 7:01 am, Kris LeGault said: No, wait, "Tuesdays child is full of grace " Hey, that would be acool name Grace Misra. But she will be beautiful as well as graceful, a really better attribute for a daughter.
At 8:02 am, Bob said: Hermione—it's from Harry Potter, but also from Shakespeare's, Winter's Tale. Haden and Hermione. Hermione Gordana, sounds British, what. Heheh.
At 8:37 am, Karen said: Got the morning duties out of the way. Sure glad I'm not 60 doing all this... heh heh... Oh Kit and Su are assured lots of help through the years. KateandVal are sure to have a visitors schedule! I'll check in again before we go to the water park. Love to you all. Piece 'o Cake.
At 9:00 am, Steph said: Okay, finally installed in the room!
At 9:07 am, Heather said: Hello hope everything is going great Judy sends her wishes and I well check in with you all late. Good luck

At 9:12 am, Kitty said: Doc V. said not to expect to see the inside of the OR until noon.

As seasoned parents of the c-section experience, we arrived fashionably late. They put us in a double room that we will surely get move out of as soon as they clear a few private rooms. Val and Kate just arrived with their bags of goodies. We figure that if they spread out and make it look less welcoming for a roomate, the more likely they'll get us out of here sooner.

Steph has some pictures to post already. Right now she's on her first coffee/smoke break.

At 9:16 am, Val & Kate said: June 25th horoscope for the Gemini/Cancer cusp baby:

You are accustomed to handling pressure of responsibility. You are romantic, and when it comes to love you are passionate. Pisces, Virgo individuals play important roles in your life, could have these letters in name: G, P, Y.

name suggestion: Guppy

At 9:19 am, Su Daddy said: I am eating white cheddar cheese-nips. I prefer Cheez-it but these are pretty good too.
At 9:30 am, Kitty said: Unfortunately all out scheming has failed to work. We're getting a roomate. Hopefully not the 14 year old crack head that we've been joking about. Suman hopes she comes in unconsious with nobody in her attendance.

Last night we had a big steak dinner, knowing that this would be my last meal for several days. As we were leaving, the waiter pointed out that there was another woman in the restaurant that was scheduled for a c-section this morning. Perhaps it is she that we were waiting for.

At 9:37 am, Catherine (Grandma) LeGault said: SONG OF THE CANDLE

First she trims the crumbled wicking
and carves down the wasted wax.
Thus, the flame, alive and kicking,
symbolizes birthing facts.

Light a candle for the baby!
Light it too for those who wait.
Light the flame, too, for Our Lady
who presides oe'r baby's fate !

Light the candle for my daughter
who is mother of the child,
and for mother who begot her
now in charge of flame so wiild !

So the life on earth continues
from the flame of love conceived
from the living veins and sinews
into loving arms received !

At 9:44 am, Auntie Kate said: Our two nurses, Terry and Lauren are attending to Kit right now - taking vitals and starting an IV. It looks like we're second in line on today's schedule.

At 9:44 am, Bob said: OK, I'll be the first to comment on that terrific poem. Whoah, Mom, sweet!
At 9:52 am, Auntie Kate said: After a long and painful-looking attempt, the IV has begun.

Catherine, I just finished reading your poem aloud to all those gathered in Kit and Su's room. What a wonderful vision for this special day.

At 9:53 am, Catherine (Grandma) LeGault said:
So the poem DID get through. That's a good omen. This closeness is so unbelievable ! Just like at Haden's birth !
Now I can go back to "tending the flame" in peaceful comfort! ME U ALL, my dear ones! MOM

At 9:57 am, Bob said: Ouch. I feel for you Kitty. An IV really is a good thing, though.
At 10:02 am, Auntie Kate said: Now it's medical history time. Terry asked Suman to answer the following question for Kit: "do you have any female problems"? Suman's response: "I have six."

The expert medical opinion of Terry and Lauren - "you are gorgeous."

We're planning on negotiating with the anesthesiologist - - hopefully, we're all be in the delivery room to greet little 2girl.

At 10:07 am, Steph said: Now Kitty, Val, and Kate have gone to look at babies. Kitty wants to get some walking in, as she'll be bedridden for a while.
At 10:17 am, Steph said: The neighbors have arrived.. many many people in this room now.
At 10:24 am, Bob said: Extend an invitation to join the VDR chat. It may make it memorable for them.
At 10:28 am, Steph said: Sorry for the delay.. All except me have headed down to the pre-op room!
At 10:28 am, Steph said: We're uploading the pictures we took this morning, and should have them online before too long.
At 10:29 am, Steph said: Bob, good idea.. they're a bit busy for now, though. :)
At 10:37 am, Steph said: Uploaded two pictures to the picture gallery, go look.. we're moving the computer down to pre-op now.
At 10:41 am, Jackie Aussie said: Just thought of a name while driving to work. I think it should be :"Halle" same as Halle Berry. (if that's spelled correctly)
Then we'll have a "Halle, and Haden."

At 10:45 am, Heather said: Those pictures are great, looks like you all are having a good time. That was a great poem, Tyler says hello and he's playing the drums for you ahhhhh.
At 10:45 am, Bob said: The pictures look good. That belly looks as if it's alive. It is alive! (c:
At 10:49 am, Steph said: Back online.. I'll have time to type more description once everyone is in the operating room. Kate is videotaping, the nurse is asking if they drew the fluids she needs (they did) and Dr. Vinson has just arrived.
At 11:02 am, Darcy said: Hey guys! Just chiming in to let you know I'm here keeping tabs. So exciting!
At 11:22 am, Steph said: Well, everyone just went into the operating room. It's not easy moving this laptop from room to room! :) We've been in four today.. main shared hospital room, another room (which I'm in now) which was sort of a staging area (though private), the "on deck" room, and now they're all in the operating room.
At 11:23 am, Steph said: I'll be uploading more pics while we all wait.. so far everything is going swimmingly!
At 11:28 am, Steph said: Darnit.. Kate said she'd had the "Christmas Don't Be Late" song by Alvin and the Chipmunks stuck in her head for a few days, and then sang a few bars.. now *I'm* stuck with it!
At 11:29 am, Bob said: Steph, you're a wiz! The belly picture reminded me that the name Gordon means, small hill.
At 11:37 am, Steph said: They've now been in there for 15 minutes or so... going to run down the hall and see if anything interesting is visible from outside.
At 11:39 am, Steph said: Okay, couldn't see anything, but will be moving to the other room again, as it's now empty, and where Kitty et al will be immediately afterwards.
At 11:46 am, Steph said: Okay, done moving again... now just waiting for the baby and her entourage to emerge!
At 11:48 am, Steph said: Kate is doing the videotaping, and Val took in the digital camera, so within 10 minutes of them coming out, we can have pictures broadcast worldwide!
At 11:52 am, Steph said: Well, a nurse saw me hanging out in the hallway and told me "It's gonna be another half hour, easily." Oh well, I have nothing better to do! I can see three doctors (?) fiddling around with intense concentration, and some shadows near the door, but that's it.
At 11:58 am, Steph said: I'm sure the baby's here.. Dr. Vinson is making sewing motions, though of course I can't see below about elbow height. I've patched enough clothes myself, though, to know what it looks like.
At 12:00 pm, Sowmya Sriram and Rishi said: Good luck Kate, Suman!!
At 12:00 pm, Steph said: Yep, another nurse went in, and through the open door I saw the same huddle of blue backs that I saw when Haden was born. Everyone looks relaxed, no flurries of activity, so it looks like everyone is healthy! Of course, bystanders could be passed out inside, for all I know...
At 12:01 pm, Bob said: Heheh.
At 12:04 pm, Bob said: C'mon out of that small hill, Gordana!
At 12:04 pm, Steph said: I wonder if this is how expectant fathers used to feel? All that activity in there, while it's so quiet and lonely out here..
At 12:08 pm, Bob said: The world holds its breath.
At 12:10 pm, Steph said: Just realized I felt nauseous, and that I hadn't eaten anything today.. had three bites of the bagel I brought with me and promptly started hiccupping. Since I have nothing else of interest to report...
At 12:11 pm, Steph said: They have the roll-y bed ready outside the op room door, and they MUST be close to being done now... it's been like an hour, right?
At 12:13 pm, Steph said: They've got music playing in there somewhere, not positive it's the op room.. but they're playing"Wind Beneath My Wings."
At 12:14 pm, Steph said: Yay, 7 pounds 6 ounces!
At 12:15 pm, Bob said: I don't know about you, but I'm going to take a breath now.
At 12:15 pm, Bob said: Yahoo! Way to go Kitty and Suman!
At 12:18 pm, Steph said: http://www.misra-family.com/pictures_detail.php?pic=First%20Pic~16&ret=june25~3
At 12:19 pm, Bob said: Wow, she looks like Haden. Only gorgeouser.
At 12:22 pm, Suman said: We're in the recovery room and Mommy is high.

2girl looks like her brother.

At 12:23 pm, Sowmya Sriram and Rishi said: Congratulations!!!! Hopefully we will be there to see you all in the evening.
At 12:34 pm, Val said: So we're in the delivery room and Kit says: "Say something to distract me," and we start talking about St. Maarten. Dr. Scott, one of the surgeons, says, in the Caribbean? and we said yes, we've got a timeshare there, and he says so do I, and we asked where, and we said Divi Little Bay, and he said, me too, and we asked what time of year, and he said May, and we said that's when brother Bink was there! Small world!!! And by that time 2girl was on board :-)
At 12:47 pm, Kitty said: She nursed like a champ! And I already have colostrum coming in.
At 12:49 pm, Steph said: A private room awaits on the next floor up.. yay!
At 12:51 pm, Heather said: Hey, that's great and she's already eating. Contrats everybody, good job and we look forward to seeing her soon.

At 1:01 pm, Steph said: We uploading more pictures right now.. she's gorgeous, alert, strong, and already filled her diaper.
At 1:24 pm, Marisa said: Congratulations! I just got on line and was
greeted with the birth of a baby. Good job Kitty.

At 2:21 pm, Steph said: The little girl is 20 inches long, just got measured.
At 2:21 pm, Catherine (Grandma) LeGault said: AfterI set u[ my prayer=candle site on the coffee table, I sat down for a little nap. When I awoke and got online again, there it all was done! what was the exact time of birth?
I've printed some pictures while sitting here in the state of shock. congratulations everyone and thank you all for being there with my darling Kitty. Love, MOM

At 2:22 pm, Steph said: We need more name suggestions, too! In the running right now is 'Jordan'. Halle and Sydney were contenders, but she seems too strong for something that ends in the long E sound.
At 2:36 pm, Steph said: Kitty is in a lot of pain... they just upped her morphine.
At 2:38 pm, Steph said: Exact time of birth was 11:30 am pacific time. Everyone says hi, Catherine!
At 2:50 pm, Steph said: The name 'Morgan' is sounding better and better!
At 3:01 pm, Suman said: Now accepting flowers in room 70 OHSU.
At 4:08 pm, Haden said: /// mm //// ;l./........./
At 4:43 pm, Kris LeGault said: Suman and Kitty, congratulations, she is so incredibly gorgeous, but that appears to be the only kind of babies you have. Can Dan and I have the next one? Yea, I'll bet that is the last thing that you want to think about. We are so happy for you both that your daughter is here safe and healthy. Love to you all, Kris Dan and Rose
At 4:46 pm, Dan LeGault said: Ok, wasn't Morgan the dog's name? If that is the theme, how about Dixie, it does have that long e. Dixie Gordana Misra. Congrats, love Danny Boy
At 4:48 pm, Heather said: I really like the name Morgan, that sounds great. Kate and Suman my mom and dad say hello and congrats they were watching but had to go to work. We were wanting to come and visit you all but we will call first to see how things are going and how kate is feeling first.
At 5:08 pm, Catherine (Grandma) LeGault said:
Dear Su & Kit & Val & Kate,
I'm wandering around the house like a Zombie. this happened so much faster - at least so it seems - than the birth of Haden, that I can't assimilate the fact that the Misra family has suddenly grown to four !
How I wish I could have been there, at least to hold Marlene's hand while she held our wonderful grandson. You know, the age-difference between him and 2-girl is within a month of how much older Chuck was than the twins when they were born.
I've snuffed out the vigil candle and made a picture arrangement on the coffee table. It's difficult to celebrate alone. Bless you, my chuildren1 Me U, MOM

At 5:13 pm, Suman said: Nana and Haden are here now visiting 2livecrew girl.

Haden kissed his sister, then tried to poke her in the eye, then lost interest and startewd flirting with the nurses.

At 5:22 pm, Catherine (Grandma) LeGault said: After reading all the messages I'm a little distubed by Steph's remark that Kitty is in a lot of pain and has to have more morphine. I wish I could be there to kiss it and make it well1 I love you, dear!
At 5:29 pm, Dan Legault said: New name thoughts: Dannie, Daniel My stepdaughter Lisa recommended India gordana Misra sounds like Haden will be the typical brother, poke em the eye and leave em for a hot nurse.
At 5:33 pm, Steph said: I made it home.. just finishing up dinner prep for Pete, he says "Congratulations on 18 more years of servitude, minimum." He means that it a nice way, you know Pete. :)
At 5:34 pm, Steph said: Suman, do you want to zip up and email the pics I uploaded into your 'my docs/my pics' folder? No rush, just if you have time. I have tons of pics still on the camera. Will be uploading, reorganizing, optimizing, etc. after dinner.
At 5:35 pm, Auntie Kate said: Haden, Marlene and Suman are sitting together on the bench/bed. Val holds baby to calm her after breast-feeding attempt got a little frustrating for her. Kit is strong, gorgeous and confident with her baby girl. Haden is alternately enchanted and bored by baby sister. He leans he head towards her and rubs up against her head. He has planted several big kisses - - right on the lips -- and only poked her in the eye once. What an amazing experience to welcome a miracle to this earth! She was wonderfully alert for 2 to 3 hours post-birth. Following her bath and wrapped tight in blankies and a couple of warm packs, she proceeded to sack out until about 20 minutes. After Auntie Vals' calming rock-a-bye, Baby is now clamped tight at momma's breast and enjoying her first full meal. "She's chowing down like a champ", says the proud papa.
At 5:36 pm, Steph said: P.S. Pete is noting that you'll be 61 when this one graduates high school, my dear! :) My my, someone is being a killjoy. :)
At 5:39 pm, Auntie Kate said: Val's says to document the horrified look on Haden's face when he first saw 2girl attached to momma's breast. Sort of "hey, that's mine" kind of look.
At 6:03 pm, Bob said: The rivalry starts immediately. It stops when they get to be about 45 or so. Welcome to real parenthood. Now Haden can blame the broken whatever on his sister and vice versa. He's no longer out-numbered by parents either. I like Morgan as a name. I also like: Maeve, Mahdi, Mae and Margaux or Margot.
At 6:09 pm, Steph said: I'm thinking of her as Morgan..
At 6:58 pm, Bob said: What happened to the name, Shanta? Was it the Shanta Claus criticism that sank it? I still think of 2girl as Shanta. I'm only kidding about the rivalry stuff and the dark side of parenting. Parenting makes my life meaningful and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'd probably never know who Goku was either.

At 7:42 pm, Vel said: Su, Nana Marlene and Haden just left to have some Jack-In-The-Box-burgers and put Haden to bed. Kit, Kate, Morgan and I are just hangin' out in the OHSU Hilton, listening to the music meant to calm Kit when she went into labor. It is all very peaceful. Kit wants to wait till all her morphine wears off before she officially commits to Morgan Shanta Misra as 2girl's post-uterine name. Shanta being Suman's father's late sister's name. She has a strong, no-BS face. She'll take good care of Haden as they grow up together.
At 7:47 pm, Val said: That's Val, not Vel.
At 7:54 pm, Karen said: Just returned from a big day ourselves. Not as momentous, but we're pretty beat ourselves. Max has an ex-LeGault-dog's name as well. Nothing wrong with that. Well done to all of you; in the bed, the room, the peanut gallery, and those even further. Catherine - you sound so enthusiastic. Love the poem. Fun to read Bob's one-liners. Pictures are perfect. We're all very happy for you. Such a little gal. Rest up. It's a long life! Love to you all.
At 8:10 pm, Kitty said: As the sun settles on her birthday, we study the new girl's familiar face. 'Contentment' is the impression that recurrs to us all as a result. There is no mistaking the strength of her jib. She currently lies in Kate's arms and taking our breath away. She's given her the permission to be the worlds first Dancer, Quantum Physicist, US President and Philosopher in history.

A shift change has brought on a new crew for the evening. It's interesting to hear the impression that we are making with the staff.

My status: scant incisional bleeding, pain much less, allowed only ice chips until proof of digestive activity and catheter remains in place for at least one more day. Recovery would greatly increase were I to receive a few more flowers...Hint: call the hospital gift shop and they could send them right up. (503) 494-5761. We're located on 13th floor room 70.

Shameless? yes. To be expected from the mother of one Morgan Shanta Misra.

At 8:26 pm, Kris Legault said: thank you for setting up the website, it has been such a huge treat to feel a part of this very special day. I think Morgan is a fabulous name and we already love her so much! OK, so now can you have one for us?
At 8:28 pm, Val said: It couldn't have been a more lovely day to be born. A nearly unheard-of pre-4th-of-July sunny day in Portland, the lushness of early summer, and the promise of a full moon tonight. Totally Awe-spicious!
At 8:29 pm, Steph said: The Virtual Delivery Room is closing for business again! All messages can be placed in the Messages page.

Congrats to everyone involved!! Morgan is a beautiful baby.
